WASHINGTON - Trump chooses conservative Gorsuch for Supreme Court. US President Donald Trump on Tuesday nominated Neil Gorsuch for the US Supreme Court, with both sides already digging in for what will likely be a fierce battle to fill a rare opening on the country’s highest court. Judge Gorsuch presently sits on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver, and was originally nominated to the federal bench by President George W. Bush.
Known for his conservative thinking and incisive writing style, he will, if confirmed, fill the seat left vacant last year by the death of Antonin Scalia, a hero of the conservative legal establishment. If confirmed, Mr Gorsuch would restore the high court to the 5-4 conservative-liberal split that existed before Scalia’s death. (Financial Times)
